NPC – NIRB Joint Public Review of the Baffinland ERP Transportation Corridor

News Release

The Nunavut Planning Commission (NPC) and the Nunavut Impact Review Board (NIRB) are conducting a joint Public Review of the transportation corridor proposed as part of the Baffinland Iron Mine Corporations (BIMC) Early Revenue Phase (ERP) for the Mary River Project. The ERP may have environmental and social impacts relating to the Milne Inlet Tote Road, Milne Inlet as well as the marine environment around Milne Inlet, and nearby communities.

Feedback received during the Public Review will be used to assist the NPC to determine whether the ERP meets the information requirements of Appendices J and K of the North Baffin Regional Land Use Plan, and whether to recommend an amendment to the land use plan. Persons potentially affected by the ERP who are interested in reviewing the ERP, obtaining the NPC’s Rules of Procedure for Public Hearings and Reviews (NPC Rules), becoming a participant in these proceedings, or in providing comments as a member of them public in writing or at an informal oral hearing, are encouraged to contact the NPC for further information. If you do not apply in writing to become a participant as required by the NPC Rules within 14 days of publication of this notice, or if you do not provide written or oral comments as a member of the public before the end of the last oral hearing below, the NPC may proceed in your absence and you will not be entitled to any further notice.
